The SunnyIcons component of eSchemes Deluxe has been updated (6/28/2009) to version 2.1 RC3. The Piano Launchpad component is at version 1.38 (7/22/2008), and the Imagination component is at version 3.10 (4/6/2008). SunnyIcons offers support for PNG icons (warning: it conflicts with WPS Wizard!). Imagination consists of new WPS classes which simplify browsing of pictures; it offers a preview window and image viewing, with support for many common graphics formats. Piano Launchpad is a replacement for the old IBM Launchpad, with support for large icons. Thanks to Eugene Gorbunoff for the info.


Agena version 0.24.0 has been ported (6/28/2009) to OS/2. This is an interpreted language suited for sophisticated procedural programming, with syntax like simplified Algol 68, with elements taken from Lua and SQL.


Paul Smedley has ported (6/26/2009) Subversion 1.6.3 to OS/2. Also available (9/2/2008) is another port of Subversion version 1.5.2. Subversion is software for version control, intended to replace CVS. From OS2.org.


lzip version 1.7 has been ported (6/26/2009) to OS/2. This is a lossless file compressor that is almost as fast as gzip, and compresses better than bzip2.


Paul Smedley has released (6/23/2009) an OS/2 build of PHP 5.2.10; modules supported include bz2, curl, dbase, exif, filepro, gd, gettext, mbstring, mysql, mysqli, openssl, pdo_mysql, pdo_sqlite, pgsql, and sqlite. aget version 0.4.1 has been ported (6/23/2009) to OS/2. This is a multi-threaded HTTP download accelerator.


Moneydance 2008r4 build 640 has been released (6/22/2009). It is a personal finance manager written completely in Java. It includes transaction auto-completion, graphing, reporting, a reconciliation tool, running cleared vs uncleared balances, transaction sorting, double-entry, multiple currencies, multiple accounts and much more.


MagicDraw UML 16.5 SP2 has been released (6/22/2009). This is a Java based UML modelling tool.


PM CTorrent Manager version 0.04 has been released (6/21/2009). This is a graphical interface to the "Enhanced CTorrent" BitTorrent client.


OS2MT has been updated (6/20/2009) to version 0.78 beta. This is a maintenance tool that enables you to download and install various applications with a couple clicks of the mouse. There is also a mailing list for it on Yahoo Groups.


SETI@Home is a distributed computing project similar to the encryption cracking efforts run by distributed.net. The SETI@Home concept is to distribute radio telescope data gathered by the SETI project (SETI = Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) to thousands of computers over the Internet so that the data can be analyzed for signals that might be of intelligent origin. The client software runs in the background when your computer is idle. An OS/2 client of "boinc" version 6.6.29 is now (6/19/2009) available. If you run it, join the OS/2 team.


ChatZilla version 0.9.85 has been released (6/18/2009). This is the IRC client that comes with the Mozilla suite. It now supports SSL and full Unicode nicknames.


The USB-based monitor for APC Back-UPS CS/ES has been updated (6/16/2009) to version 0.10.2. The web site is in Russian, but there is an English readme file.


Exiftool version 7.78 has been packaged (6/16/2009) for OS/2. This is a set of Perl modules plus an application script for reading and writing meta information in image, audio, video, and PDF files.


JamochaMUD version 4.0 has been released (6/16/2009). This is an open-source Java MUCK/MUD client.


An OS/2 port of the SWT toolkit has been released (6/16/2009). This is the Java GUI toolkit used by Eclipse; it is currently missing the Tree, ProgessBar, Sash and ToolBar classes.


PHPMyAdmin version 3.2.0 has been released (6/15/2009). This is a set of PHP scripts to administer MySQL over the web.


An updated version of MPlayer has been released (6/14/2009), which has support for Win32 codecs, DIVE, SNAP video overlays, and WarpOverlay. There is a browser plugin included, as well as MEncoder, a simple movie encoder. Most MPEG/VOB, AVI, Ogg/OGM, VIVO, ASF/WMA/WMV, QT/MOV/MP4, RealMedia, Matroska, NUT, NuppelVideo, FLI, YUV4MPEG, and more are supported.


Paul Smedley has released (6/14/2009) an OS/2 port of MySQL version 5.1.35. There is also an OS/2 port (8/9/2008) of MySQL version 5.0.67. The MySQL database server is the world's most widely used open source database. The OS/2 port features named pipes, data replication, >2GB databases, and more. There is a mailing list for discussion.


Privoxy (formerly JunkBuster) version 3.0.13 beta has been released (6/14/2009). This is a web proxy with advanced filtering capabilities for protecting privacy, filtering web page content, managing cookies, controlling access, and removing ads, banners, pop-ups and other obnoxious Internet junk. C.a.R. version 8.91 has been released. This is a Java program that simulates school geometry constructions with a pair of compasses and a straightedge (ruler).


Simple Samba Configuration Center has been updated (6/13/2009) to version 0.8.9. This allows you to edit an available smb.conf, already available keys, and add and remove shares and printers. There are also other Samba-related utilities on the web site.


PM VNC Viewer version 1.04 has been released (6/13/2009). This is a VNC client, which allows remote control of any VNC server, whether it be Unix, Win32, Mac, or OS/2 systems.


JAlbum version 8.3.5 has been released (6/13/2009). This is a web photo album generator that requires Java 1.5.


IpConfigPM version 1.3 has been released (6/13/2009). This is a graphical interface for changing the IP address, domain name and DNS servers.


SDLMAME version 0.132 has been ported (6/12/2009) to OS/2. This is an SDL version of the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator.


OpenTTD version 0.7.1 has been released (6/8/2009). This is an open source clone of the popular DOS game "Transport Tycoon Deluxe" using SDL. Note that the original game data files are currently required.


Mr. Message has been updated (6/8/2009). This is an instant messenger client which is capable of communicating over AOL's Instant Messenger network using the OSCAR protocol.


Internet Application Integration version 1.0.9.2 has been released (6/5/2009). This allows you to specify the default Internet applications for web, mail, news, ftp, and irc. It can also install the Run! package and add registry entries for FT2Lib support.


SmartSVN version 6.0.2 has been released (6/5/2009). This is a Java Subversion GUI client, with features like built-in File Compare/Merge, Change Report or Tag and Branch handling, and more. It requires Java 1.4.1 or higher.


RUN! version 0.80 has been released (6/4/2009). This program can eliminate the batch files and config.sys entries often needed to start 'helper-apps' (e.g. opening your web browser from your email client). It sets the current drive, directory, & BeginLibPath to the directory containing the .exe, starts the program, then terminates. It can also set environment variables, change the priority, redirect output, and more.


SmartCVS version 7.0.8 has been released (6/4/2009). This is a Java CVS GUI client, with features like built-in File Compare/Merge, Transaction display or List Repository Files, and more. It requires Java 1.4.1 or higher.


ImageJ version 1.42 has been released (6/4/2009). ImageJ is a powerful image-editing program relying on Java 1.3 or greater, with numerous plugins.


The ACPI driver has been updated (5/29/2009) to version 3.16 on the eComStation Betazone (for Software Subscription customers only). Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) is a replacement for APM, PnP, and related hardware features. It features support for multiprocessor systems (SMP, Dual Core, and HyperThreading), and there is an APM driver available. There is an ACPI Tools web page as well, which includes a battery monitoring widget for XCenter. From VOICE News.

JGraphpad version 6.0.7.3 has been released (5/26/2009). This is a Java-based powerful, free diagram editor that allows you to create flow charts, maps, UML diagrams, and more.


AiR-BOOT version 1.06 has been released (5/24/2009). This is a Multi-Boot partition loader with some extra features, including colored "Award-like" SETUP, virus protection, Linux kernel support, and more. From OS2.org.


Btrieve Commander has been updated (5/24/2009). This is a Btrieve file viewer / editor.


Iron Spring PL/I beta version 0.8a has been released (5/21/2009). This is a compiler for the PL/I programming language, although it is currently missing some features. From VOICE News.


jRipper version 1.0.1 has been packaged (5/21/2009) for OS/2. This is a CD ripper and audio converter that supports Wav, Flac, MP3, Ogg, and AAC formats, that requires Java 1.4. From OS2.org.


eCo Software has created the "La-la-la" site, dedicated to software for music. Included (5/18/2009) are eCo Tunes and MMIO Cast, both of which are interfaces for Internet radio. From OS2.org.


QueenCy version 0.2.10 has been released. This is a painting program for OS/2, which supports the Wacom tablets. There are also drivers for the Wacom tablets on that page, including support for USB. From os2.jp.


x264 version 0.67.x has been ported (5/17/2009) to OS/2. This is a H.264 (MPEG4 AVC) encoder library.


JExpress version 7.2.5 has been released. This lets you create Java-based multilingual installers and auto-updaters. An easy to use Swing interface lets you design your installers quickly without requiring any programming. It can also select the exact classes your Java app uses, build your directory tree, and produce JAR files.


A driver for MCS7830 based USB to Ethernet adapters has been updated (5/14/2009) to version 1.1.


NDPDAV version 1.1 beta 2 has been released (5/12/2009). This is a WebDav client for NetDrive, which allows you to connect to Apache mod_dav WebDAV resources as regular directories on a NetDrive virtual volume. WebDAV is a set of extensions to the HTTP protocol which allows users to collaboratively edit and manage files on remote web servers.


Web Family Tree version 1.6 has been released (5/12/2009). It allows you to put your genealogy information on the web, using CGI. You need a a web server to use it. From VOICE News.


GNU Ocrad version 0.18 has been ported (5/12/2009) to OS/2. This is an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) program, that reads a bitmap image in pbm, pgm and ppm formats and produces text in 8-bit or UTF-8 formats.


The Samba plugin for the NetDrive Filesystem has been updated (5/11/2009) to version 1.5 beta; it is based on Samba 3.0.34. It allows you to mount SMB or CIFS shares on OS/2 without the need of NetBIOS (IBM LAN Manager or IBM Peer). Also available are a Samba port driver (5/8/2009) for printing to shared printers, and Samba server version 3.0.33 (1/29/2009; labeled version 1.0.0.3). From VOICE News.


FM/2 version 3.16 has been released (5/10/2009). This is an open source GUI file manager program, with lots of extra helper utilities. The source code is available from netlabs.org. Thanks to Gregg Young for the info.


FluidSynth version 1.0.9 has been ported (5/10/2009) to OS/2. This is a software real-time synthesizer based on the Soundfont 2 specifications.


REXX Function package for REXX based CGI scripts version 1.51 has been released (5/9/2009). This provides additional REXX functions for CGI scripts. It handles form processing (GET and POST methods) with data validation, supports file uploads, sending e-mail and attachments via SMTP, checking and retrieving POP3 mail, getting documents via HTTP, building PDF documents and a range of useful date, file and string functions, and more. A tool for using the CanoScan 4400F scanner has been released. It allows you to scan paper, photos, slides, and film in color, greyscale, and bitonal.


File version 5.0.3 has been ported (5/8/2009) to OS/2. This utility can identify the data type of several thousands of types of files, without relying on extensions.


QEmu version 0.10.3 has been ported (5/7/2009) to OS/2. This is a virtual machine / emulator; you can see a screenshot. From os2.jp.


id3v2 version 0.1.11 has been ported (5/7/2009) to OS/2. This is a command line id3v2 tag editor for MP3 files, which can add, modify, remove, and view id3v2 tags, and convert from id3v1 tags.


OS/2 API Trace version 2.45.38 has been released (5/4/2009). This tool allows you to trace the 16-bit and 32-bit OS/2 APIs used by any application without requiring the application's source code.


Paul Smedley has ported (5/3/2009) GCC version 4.4.0 to OS/2. This compiler allows many modern projects to be compiled for OS/2. Also available are ports of GCC versions 4.3.3, 4.3.2, 4.0.4, and 3.4.6. From OS2.org.


Paul Smedley has ported (5/3/2009) CUPS version 1.3.10, as well as Gutenprint 5.2.3, and Splix version 1.1.1. The latest build includes improved support for USB printers. Also available (4/10/2009) is a CUPS port driver, which allows interfacing the standard OS/2 printing subsystem with CUPS. CUPS is the Common Unix Printing System; the goal is to improve the printing support in eComStation. You can see what printers are potentially supported; those mentioned as working with CUPS or Gutenprint should work. There is a newsgroup dedicated to discussion and feedback, as well as a HowTo.


Paul Smedley has updated (5/3/2009) his OS/2 port of FFMpeg. This is a complete (command line driven) solution to record, convert, and stream audio and video. Note that WarpVision, KMP, and MPlayer all use this library.


PMView, the indispensable graphics viewer, has been updated (5/1/2009) to version 3.53. Version 3.x has several new features, including EXIF support, scripted batch conversions, lossless JPEG rotation, and flyover image info; see the full list of what's new for more info. Scribus version 1.3.3.13 has been ported (5/1/2009) to OS/2. This page layout program supports professional publishing features, such as CMYK color, separations, ICC color management and versatile PDF creation. The latest version can be found on SourceForge.


cclive version 0.4.1 has been ported (4/30/2009) to OS/2. This is a command line video extraction utility, which allows you to download videos from supported websites, including YouTube, Google Video, and DailyMotion.


ScummVM version 0.13.1 has been released (4/27/2009). This allows you to run several adventure games, provided you have the data files. Games known to work include Space Quest I & II, King's Quest I-III, Legend of Kyrandia, Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Beneath A Steel Sky, Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2; Flight of the Amazon Queen; and games based on LucasArts' SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system, including Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more. There are even free downloads available for a few of the games; latest additions include Lure of the Temptress, and Drascula: The Vampire Strikes Back.


Paul Smedley has ported (4/27/2009) GNU Binutils version 2.19.1 to OS/2. These are tools for compiling and linking programs, and most notably includes 'ld' (not functional on OS/2 yet), and 'as', the GNU assembler. From VOICE News.


SearchPlus version 1.62 has been released (4/27/2009). This tool does simultaneous multiple file searches, including in zip archives. Search criteria can include contents, file size, file date, attributes, and actions can include edit, open, delete, copy, move, execute.


KeyCalc version 1.1 has been released (4/26/2009). This is a scientific calculator that allows you to choose between RPN and algebraic mode, and between real and complex arithmetic. From VOICE News.


PMMail/2 version 3.04 has been released. VOICE purchased the rights and source code for this popular email client; VOICE membership is required as part of the registration, but the demo version can be used for one account, and some other limitations. From VOICE News.


ClamAV version 0.95.1 has been ported (4/23/2009) to OS/2. This is a GPL anti-virus toolkit, which features a command line scanner, a tool for automatic updating via the Internet, and integration with mail servers (attachment scanning).


LPR32 version 1.1 has been released (4/20/2009). This is port driver for IP printing, which can be used as an alternative to IBM's SLPR driver.


PhotoRec version 6.11 has been ported (4/19/2009) to OS/2. This is a file data recovery software designed to recover lost pictures and other data files from digital camera memory or hard disks. Also available is TestDisk, a tool for partition analysis and recovery. Both of these utilities currently only work with image files under OS/2.


Art of Illusion version 2.7.2 has been released (4/19/2009). This is a full featured 3D modelling, rendering, and animation studio that requires Java 1.5.


Paul Smedley has released (4/19/2009) an OS/2 port of Python version 2.6.2, as well as a Mercurial 1.0.2 module. There is also another port (1/1/2007) of Python 2.4.4; there are several extensions listed on that site as well. Python is a scripting language that comes from the Unix world.


Paul Smedley has ported (4/16/2009) ISC DHCP client version 3.12. It has been modified to be compatible with the old IBM DHCP client.


FlashBlock version 1.5.10 (for Firefox 1.5.x and later) and version 1.3.13 (for other Mozilla browsers) have been released (4/13/2009). This is a Mozilla / Firefox extension that replaces Flash animations with a "click to play" placeholder.


SQLite version 3.6.12 has been ported (4/13/2009) to OS/2. SQLite is an embedded SQL database library.


Dynamic Windows version 1.1 has been released (4/12/2009). This is a cross-platform application framework that was designed to make it easy to create dynamic applications with a modern interface, and was modeled after the GTK library.


Free Pascal version 2.2.4 has been released (4/12/2009). Free Pascal is a Pascal compiler that is semantically compatible with Borland Turbo Pascal and Borland Delphi.


Paul Smedley has ported (4/12/2009) Rsync version 3.0.5 to OS/2. This is a useful utility for syncing files between machines, and includes support for EAs.


EmperoarTV version 2.03 has been released (4/8/2009). This software brings support for many DVB cards, as well as the Hauppauge PVR150/250/350/500 TV cards to the OS/2 platform, including high quality MPEG2 hard disk recording and playback. You can listen to FM radio programs in stereo, watch TV programs in excellent image quality, and more. Also available is DVDFront, a front end that simplifies the creation of video DVDs out of recordings made by EmperoarTV. It supports both WarpOverlay and SNAP overlays. Dr.Web version 5.00 has been released (4/6/2009). This is an anti-virus program, which still supports OS/2.


Paul Smedley has released (4/3/2009) an OS/2 port of Stunnel version 4.26. This is a program that allows you to encrypt arbitrary TCP connections inside SSL (Secure Sockets Layer); you can secure non-SSL aware daemons and protocols (like POP, IMAP, LDAP, etc). From VOICE News.


GOCR version 0.47 has been ported (4/1/2009) to OS/2. GNU Optical Character Recognition reads images in many formats and outputs a text file. From OS2.org.


Guiffy version 8.6 build 262 has been released (3/28/2009). Guiffy is a file compare / merge (diff-like) tool with a GUI implemented in Java.


addcr/delcr has been released (3/27/2009). This is a more versatile version of the unix2dos / dos2unix newline conversion utility, which accepts filenames with wildcards, recurses into subdirectories, and can either convert files in-place or convert & copy them to a target directory.


ArgoUML version 0.28 has been released (3/24/2009). This is a modelling tool written in Java to help you do your design using UML.


Paul Smedley has released (3/23/2009) an OS/2 build of ImageMagick version 6.5.0-5. This is a free software suite to create, edit, and compose bitmap images. It can read, convert and write images in a large variety of formats.


Mediatomb SVN r2018 has been ported (3/23/2009) to OS/2. This is an open source UPnP MediaServer with a nice web user interface, that allows you to stream your digital media to a variety of UPnP compatible devices. From VOICE News.


USB Dock has been updated (3/23/2009) on the eComstation BetaZone. This will show information on attached USB devices. From VOICE News.


GenealogyJ version 2.4.5 has been released (3/23/2009). This is a program for handling all of your genealogical information in a graphical way, which requires Java 1.5.


ACDataSeeker version 0.5.1 beta has been released (3/22/2009). This is a multithreaded PM text and file finder, intended as a replacement for PMSEEK.EXE.


DFSee has been updated (3/21/2009) to version 9.15. DFSee is an FDISK, display, analysis and recovery tool for disks and filesystems. It includes the ability to resize FAT and FAT32 partitions, has some JFS and LVM support, and is now shareware. There is also a support forum available. From VOICE News.


Lua version 5.1.4 has been ported (3/19/2009) to OS/2. This is a powerful, fast, lightweight, embeddable scripting language used in various scientific and commercial applications (and some games). Thanks to Alexander Walz for the info.


eComStation.Ru has several XCenter widgets available (3/18/2009), including a battery widget for notebooks and UPSs, a temperature widget, a USB monitor, a firewall widget, a POP3 mail checker widget, and a weather widget. Thanks to Eugene Gorbunoff for the info.


wxWidgets (formerly wxWindows) version 2.8.10 has been released (3/17/2009). This is a sophisticated cross-platform C++ framework for writing advanced GUI applications using (where possible) the native controls.


WDSibyl has been updated (3/17/2009). This is an open source continuation of the commercial product Sibyl, which is a Pascal / Delphi compiler.


WPIView version 1.1 alpha 5 has been released (3/17/2009). This is a utility to view, install, and extract WarpIN packages. From OS2.org.


libkva version 1.1.0 has been released (3/15/2009). This is a library for displaying video streams, which supports SNAP video overlays, WarpOverlay!, and DIVE. It has been used in KMP and recent ports of MPlayer.


Paul Smedley has released (3/15/2009) an OS/2 build of bzip2 version 1.0.5. This is a block-sorting file compressor, which is comparable to gzip with better compression. From VOICE News.


Borg 1.7.1 has been released (3/14/2009). This is a Java calendar app, with RDBMS support, a simple address book, and task categories.


PMViewMol3D version 0.2.1 beta has been released (3/13/2009). This program is intended for fast visualization of molecular structures, using OpenGL (WarpMesaGL). It can handle output files produced by programs such as UNEX, Gaussian, PC GAMESS / US GAMESS, and Priroda.


Sonix USB PC Camera version 1.0 has been released. This program allows you to view images and take snapshots with the Sonix USB PC camera.


DejaVu fonts version 2.29 have been released (3/8/2009). This is a font family based on the Bitstream Vera Fonts, which provides support for a wide range of Unicode characters.


Paul Smedley has released (3/5/2009) an OS/2 build of Gnash version 0.8.5, an open source Flash movie player. It supports many, but not all, Flash version 7 features. Note that there is not currently a browser plugin. Thanks to Gary Wong for the info.


dcraw version 8.92 has been ported (3/5/2009) to OS/2; version 0.49 of the "vcd" experimental version has also been ported. This is a digital camera RAW file conversion utility.


BMI Doctor/2 version 1.15 has been released (3/5/2009). This is a program to calculate body mass index and basal metabolism.


PM123 version 1.40 alpha 4 has been released. Also available (6/2/2008) is PM123 version 1.32. This is an open source MP3, OGG, WAV, and CD Audio player. Some of the features include sharing of the sound card, playlist with drag/drop support, HTTP streaming, and the use of skins to change the program's look.


bootAble version 6.2 has been released (3/1/2009). This is a script which can be used to create a maintenance partition or bootable CD with enough facilities to fully manage and recover your system. It contains support for LVM, HPFS, JFS, FAT32, UDF, and the CD file system.


GenINI version 1.2 has been released (3/1/2009); this is a pair of programs to back up OS/2 INI files in human-readable form, and to restore an INI file from the human-readable form. GenINI is freeware and open source. From VOICE News.


eSchemes version 1.50 has been released on the eComstation BetaZone (for Software Subscription customers only). This replaces the original eComStation Scheme editor and gathers the functionality of Window Themes, eStylerLite, Icon Themes, Sound Schemes, Pointer schemes, and other look & feel settings into one place. Lucide version 1.21 has been released (2/27/2009) on the eComstation BetaZone. This is a multi-purpose document viewer, using plugins for different formats. Nconvert version 5.30 has been released (2/24/2009). This is a multi-format image converter that supports more then 300 graphics formats.


Binary GetyourNews version 1.0.02 has been released (2/24/2009). This is a newsgroup attachment downloader, based on GetyourNews Version 2.16.2, with header filtering and a few other improvements.


Paul Smedley has updated (2/23/2009) his OS/2 port of Apache version 2.2.11. Apache is the premiere web server of the Internet.


GBM version 1.63 has been released (2/23/2009). Generalised Bitmap Module is a library for handling many different bitmap file formats, and is used by applications like Mesa, PM-Raw, and PM-Exif. It includes a PM bitmap viewer and editor. It now features a REXX interface library, as well as plugins for Lucide and Mozilla. The source code is freely available and released as public domain. The latest features include support for JPEG 2000, including the OpenJPEG library and tools.


Paul Smedley has released (2/23/2009) an OS/2 port of Squid version 3.0.stable13. Squid offers high performance proxy caching for Web clients supporting FTP, Gopher, and HTTP requests.

Two CD-ROM libraries have been ported (1/29/2009) to OS/2: libcddb version 1.3.0 and libcdio version 0.81. Libcddb is a library that implements the protocols for accessing data on a CDDB server, such as freedb.org. Libcdio is a library for CD-ROM and CD image access.


ABCm2PS has been ported (1/29/2009) to OS/2. This is a program for typesetting of musical scores; it uses a page description language (ABC) and produces PostScript output.

Paul Smedley has updated (12/28/2008) his Gutenprint printer driver, based on the IBM postscript driver. WGET version 1.11.4 has been ported (12/19/2008) to OS/2. This is a utility to retrieve files from the World Wide Web using HTTP and FTP, in batch mode. The recursive retrieval of HTML pages, as well as FTP sites is supported - you can use it to make mirrors of archives and home pages. Re-getting incomplete files from where it left off works on servers (both HTTP and FTP) that support it. The latest version supports downloading files larger than 2GB, and from SSL sites. The game acts as a "whiteboard" for Sodoku puzzles, and is considerably easier (and a lot more fun) to use than paper and pencil. Version 0.03 of an experimental OS2LDR replacement has been released (9/16/2008). It features support for a configuration file, in which you can specify which kernel file to boot, along with other features.


Doodle's Screen Saver version 2.0 has been released (9/15/2008). This screen saver integrates into the WPS, replaces the old Lockup Desktop facility, has DPMS support, and can be extended with new screen saver modules. It allows third party applications to disable the screen saver temporarily, for example while watching a movie. The latest version can be found on netlabs.org FTP.


IMERJ version 0.8 has been released (9/14/2008). This is a a "poor man's" Japanese input method editor, which allows you to enter Japanese kana by typing romanized text in the edit window. It is intended primarily for use on non-Japanese systems where a proper IME is not available. Input is kana only - kanji conversion is not supported.


Alpine version 2.00 has been ported (9/11/2008) to OS/2. Alpine (formerly PINE) is a text-based Internet mail and news reader. The UW POP3 and IMAP server is also available for download from the same page.


Weasel version 1.78 has been released (9/11/2008). This is a "lightweight" SMTP/POP server that has multi-domain support. Also available (4/5/2005) is the IMAPD version 0.08 module.


A number of multimedia libraries have been ported (9/4/2008) to OS/2, including: flac version 1.2.1, a free lossless audio codec; libpng version 1.2.31, the PNG library; libogg version 1.1.3; libmpeg2 version 0.5.1; and libvorbis version 1.2.0.

A number of libraries related to reading DVD media have been ported (8/31/2008) to OS/2, including: libdvdread version 4.1.3-r1130, which does low level DVD access; and libdvdnav version 4.1.3-r1130, which handles DVD navigation, such as menus.


Automake version 1.10.1 and libtool version 1.5.26 have been ported (8/31/2008) to OS/2. These are essential tools for developing and/or porting many open source programs.


Some chemistry programs have been posted (8/30/2008) to Hobbes, including: vib_shrink, which calculates harmonic vibrational frequencies, mean square amplitudes, vibrational corrections to rorational constants; and symmetry, which determines molecular symmetry operations and point groups.


Walter Meinl has released (8/28/2008) Enigmail version 0.95.7 for OS/2; this allows you to use GnuPG with your email in Thunderbird and/or Seamonkey. OS2World has a tutorial on setting it up.


A number of multimedia libraries have been ported (8/26/2008) to OS/2, including: libmad version 0.15.1b, a high quality MPEG audio decoder; XviD version 1.1.3, a high performance and high quality MPEG-4 video de-/encoding solution; and FAAC version 1.26, a Freeware Advanced Audio Coder.


URPO has been released (8/26/2008); this is a static library which allows deleting or renaming files still in use by a program. This is most useful for allowing log rotation for daemons; included are versions of kill, mv, and rm linked with this library. From VOICE News.


An OS/2 port of Mercurial version 1.0.2 has been released (8/23/2008). This is a source control system, used by the Mozilla project. It requires Python 2.4.

SigmaMD5 version 2.0.2 has been released (7/30/2008). This is a PM program that reads and creates MD5 checksum files, compatible with the GNU MD5SUM program. It provides a clear visual indication of checksum status (error's etc.) as well as error sorting and comprehensive logging facilities. It is useful for verifying that CD ISO images are valid prior to burning them to disc.


PrefBar version 4.1.2 has been released (7/29/2008). It allows you to configure several Mozilla settings on the fly, and incorporates the features of UABar.


ProNews/2 version 1.60 has been released (7/19/2008). This is a popular newsreader program. All proceeds now go to charity, as the development of this application has been taken over by members of the OS/2 community. The latest version is on Hobbes.

The SFTP plugin for NetDrive has been updated (7/7/2008) to version 3.1.1. The plugin supports SSH-2 servers and provides secure file transfer and client/server authentication. There is a review of it available.

MediaPlayerConnectivity version 0.9.1 has been released (6/22/2008). This extension for Firefox and Seamonkey replaces video streams with a button that allows you to launch external players (such as WarpVision). Warning: this version appears to be missing the install script for Seamonkey.


XWorkplace Widgets Library version 0.7.3 has been released (6/21/2008); you can find the latest version on Hobbes. These are REXX widgets for use with XCenter, and contains button, gauge, scroller, menu, and monitor widgets, plus a few more. XWorkplace version 1.0.8 has been released (6/7/2008); the latest version can be found on netlabs.org FTP. It includes all the features of XFolder 0.85, virtual desktops using xPager (formerly PageMage), a replacement for WarpCenter (XCenter) with lots of widgets, a trash can, most of the NPSWPS and WarpEnhancer features, object hotkeys, lots of new settings pages, and more. It requires WarpIN for the installation. XWorkplace is an open project with CVS access at netlabs.org, and now has a bug tracking system.


Lux Delux version 5.72 has been released. This is a Java-based game of strategy and domination inspired by the board game Risk.


Paul Smedley has updated (5/31/2008) his OS/2 build of innotek VirtualBox. This is a family of powerful x86 virtualization products, available under the GPL. NTFS plugin for NetDrive version 1.0 has been released (4/23/2008). This allows read/write access to NTFS partitions.

This is an editor with CUA and Wordstar key commands, syntax highlighting, translation, spell checking, function key macro recorder, and a lot of other features. Lout Document Formatting System version 3.36 has been ported (4/6/2008) to OS/2. This is a multilingual document formatting system producing PostScript and PDF output from text mark-up.


cadaver version 0.23.2 has been ported (4/5/2008) to OS/2. This is a command line WebDAV client.


WPS-Wizard version 0.6.1a3 has been released (3/24/2008). This is a WPS addon which provides desktop gadgets, and gives you freely configurable context menus for all filesystem objects. You may have different extended menus for different classes. It now includes support for PNG icon themes; Cairo is used for rendering, so alpha-blending can be used. There is a tutorial for those who want to create their own icon themes, as well as additional info on the icon engine itself.

Jeti/2 version 0.7.7 has been updated (3/17/2008). This is a Java 1.4x client for instant messenger services, including Jabber, AIM, MSN, Yahoo, and ICQ. From OS2.org.


RXULS version 0.5.2 has been released (3/12/2008). This is a REXX interface to selected parts of the OS/2 ULS (Universal Language Support) API, also known as the Unicode API.


Octave version 3.0.0 has been ported (3/12/2008) to OS/2. This is a high-level language, primarily intended for numerical computations. It provides a command line interface for solving linear and nonlinear problems numerically. From OS2.org.


Nice-OS/2 Enhancer version 5.5 has been released (3/11/2008). This application adds new features to the OS/2 PM interface: extended scrolling, window skinning, keyboard/mouse actions, window positioning, logon scripts, priority management, window list cleaning, text-mode window additions, SSH console control, FireFox & Wiki keys, various patches for OS/2 and Workplace Shell.


UPS Monitor has been updated (3/7/2008) for several UPS types. Also available (1/7/2005) is UPS Monitor Daemon, a small VIO program that monitors a UPS connected to a serial port, logs power events and performs a graceful shutdown of the operating system. There are versions of UPS Monitor for APC models Back-UPS Pro, Smart-UPS and other APC smart signaling UPS; APC models Back-UPS and Back-UPS Office simple signaling UPS; Guardian On Board PowerCard UPS; and contact closure UPS models by Tripplite (INTERNET Office model 500 and 700) and IBM (Professional Office models 500 and 700).


SafeFire PPP/Links version 1.3 alpha has been updated (3/5/2008). SafeFire PPP/Links supports PPtP, MSCHAP, ISDN, a traffic shaper, an identd server, remote control, and more.


MindTerm version 3.2 is now available; this is a SSH client written in Java.

DOSBox Front End version 4.9.5 has been released (2/27/2008). This is a GUI front end for launching games using DOSBox.


GenMAC Wrapper version 2.20 for wireless adapters has been released. This wrapper allows the use of Win32 network adapter drivers, for Atheros, Broadcom, Intel, Marvell, nForce, and other chipsets. Also available (1/27/2004) is GenMAC version 2.0 release 3. This is a "generalized driver" for network cards, which properly supports Resource Manager and APM. It currently supports the following NICs: SIS 900, nForce2 MCP-T, nForce MCP-T, NS-DP83820 Gigabit, and 3Com 3C90xC (including the Mini-PCI versions). From VOICE News.


MozCall version 0.3.0 has been released (2/25/2008). This is a script for running Mozilla apps to enable / disable environment variables, allow concurrent execution, and with profile roaming support built-in. Thanks to Alfredo Fernández Díaz for the info.


Alfredo Fernández Díaz has released (2/24/2008) Mozilla Registry Tools version 0.1.0; these are REXX tools for converting Mozilla's registry.dat to a plain text file and back; this allows you to make changes to the file without worrying about the binary format.


David Graser has made several PNG icon themes for WPS Wizard, including several "Ace" variants, "Buuf" variants, "KDE crystal diamond" variants, "dark glass" variants, "snowish KDE" themes, and updates to the original Noia themes.


mtpsync version 0.0.1 has been released (2/16/2008). This is a utility to work with USB MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) devices.


A toolkit to create subtitles on DVD from srt files has been released (2/16/2008).


An FFmpeg plugin for PM123 has been released (2/11/2008). This allows you to play audio files supported by the FFmpeg library, such as Windows Media Audio (wma) files.


The Panorama VESA video driver was updated (2/4/2008) on the eComStation Betazone (for Software Subscription customers only). This is a generic VESA driver, which supports all VESA 2.0 compatible video adapters. Users with SMP systems and/or widescreen panels may find this useful if there isn't an accelerated driver available; there is also an FAQ available. From VOICE News.


ePDF version 2.99 has been released. This is a PM tool for PostScript to PDF conversion, which uses GhostScript as the back-end. From VOICE News.


FileStar/2 version 3.00.02 has been released (1/30/2008). This file manager now includes FlexEdit, a graphical hex editor, which is also available separately. From VOICE News.


Wireless LAN Monitor version 3.10 has been released (1/26/2008). It is available as a XCenter widget as well as a standalone program, and features connection monitoring, multipe connection profiles, generation of WEP keys, and more.


An OS/2 build of DOSBox version 0.7.2 has been released (1/25/2008). This is a DOS emulator that uses SDL; it emulates XMS, EMS, CGA, EGA, VGA, VESA, SoundBlaster, Gravis Ultra Sound, and more, for excellent compatibility with older games. WhatsOn 3.0 has been released (1/23/2008). This is a game inspired by the old Sherlock game for DOS. From VOICE News.


cdrtools 2.01.01a37, which contains cdrecord, readcd, cdda2wav, and mkisofs has been ported (1/21/2008) to OS/2. You can burn single session, multi-session, or audio CDs. It works without ASPIROUT, and even supports USB drives. From OS2.org.


MJpegtools version 1.9.0rc3 has been ported (1/20/2008) to OS/2. This includes tools that can be used to help create DVDs (and DVD menus).


Personal Cards Manager has been updated (1/11/2008); apparently this release is known to be unstable. This enables you to store personal data about your friends, colleagues, and customers in objects on the desktop, offering your contacts in mail and applications.


Speex version 1.2 beta3 (r2) has been ported (1/11/2008) to OS/2. This is an open source voice codec, designed to compress voice at bitrates in the 2-45 kbps range. Possible applications include VoIP, internet audio streaming, archiving of speech data (e.g. voice mail), and audio books.


A FLAC plugin for PM123, based on flac-1.2.1, has been released (1/9/2008). FLAC is an open source lossless audio codec.


DragText version 3.9 has been released (1/2/2008). OverDrag allows you to press MB1 or a hotkey while dragging text & objects to: open folders, locate objects, scroll windows, minimize & restore windows, expand branches in tree view, and more. After the drag, DT will even clean up, restoring windows & closing folders you opened. It has support for Odin applications, and a "moving targets" feature. It also allows you to open objects directly from text using drag and drop; access a file or program object's menu from any window it opens. Also featured are DTProgram, a freeware program object enhancement, and a revised DTClip class that combines a clipboard viewer with its d&d equivalent. From VOICE News.


unpaper version 0.3 has been ported (1/1/2008) to OS/2. This is a post-processing tool for scanned sheets of paper, to improve legibility on screen, or improve the quality before performing optical character recognition (OCR).
