with REXX.

About the program:
-----------------

REXX, formally known as "OS/2 Procedures Language/2 REXX, is the
procedures language for OS/2. Quoting from OS/2's REXX
Information publication:

"... It was designed to make programming easier to write and
debug. High-quality programming can now be achieved using ommon
English Words in a nautral syntax flow that both beginning and
experienced programmers can understand. ... Existing batch
files can be converted to REXX procedures, with more power and
function."

REXX is currently supported by IBM and other vendors in a variety
of operating systems, on several hardware platforms, including
PCs, UNIX-based servers, and IBM mainframes. In OS/2, several
vendors use the OS/2-provided REXX as their macro languages.
Word processor macros can be written in REXX. Electronic mail
"filters" can be written in REXX. The sky is the limit!

Long time SIG member Troy Klein has done extensive software
development using REXX. He will provide a tutorial-type session
to introduce basic REXX concepts, motivate your using REXX, and
provide several samples.

OS/2 SIG WEB SITE NEWS

From its inception, Tracy Wood served ably as our Webmaster,
including posting late-breaking meeting announcements! For
personal reasons, Tracy stepped down as Webmaster some time ago.
I am happy to announce that Kevin McCrory has jumped in, and
picked up where Tracy left off. Please visit our Web site
(http://www.os2bbs.com/os2sig) and provide feedback to Kevin, or
any of the SIG leadership (listed below).

SO LONG, FAREWELL, AUF WIEDERSEHEN ...

For nearly two years I have had the privilege of leading the OS/2
SIG. I have both enjoyed and learned from this endeavor. As a
result of several (positive!) changes in my life, I find I can
no longer give the SIG the attention it deserves. Therefore, the
June 1997 meeting will be my last as your chair. Watch for news
of SIG events both via our automated mailing list and our Web
site.
