August 13, 1996 Dear OS/2 SIG Member, About the program: ----------------- Whether its size, or its tremendous enhancements, news of Merlin travels fast! Attend our August meeting and see first hand some of the marvelous new capabilities in Merlin, the next release of OS/2 due out later this year. About the speaker: ----------------- Lem Geathers is a long-time participant in the CPCUG OS/2 SIG and an enthusiastic supporter of OS/2. He divides his time among a number of IBM facilities in the area, and often provides on-site support to customers. FUTURE SIG FEATURES Look for more Merlin Madness in September! We'll make a special effort to present additional members' experiences in working with the Merlin beta (and updates) and get their reactions. New operating system releases often "raise the bar" on hardware entry requirements. In September, we plan to present a realistic look at what you can expect from your current computer, and where you might want to upgrade to exploit some of Merlin's new capabilities. SofTouch Systems, Inc. will be with us in October (fairly definite) to tell us the latest news about the GammaTech Utilities for OS/2 (and other SofTouch products). HEAR YE! HEAR YE! (Second notice!) In September, CPCUG will host its ever popular "Before You Build or Buy Your Next PC" class. This will be followed in October by the "Build Your Own PC" class, for those who want to build, rather than buy. At the May "build," two of the 11 systems were built to run OS/2! We'd like to see more! What suggestions do you WISH you'd had when you bought/built your OS/2 system? What freeware/shareware/commercial utilities do you use that you think are a "must have" for someone just getting started with OS/2? What hints, tips, incantations, and/or folklore would you give to new OS/2 users? In the CPCUG spirit of "Users Helping Users," I'd like our SIG to compile an adjunct to the builder's handbook (supplied by CPCUG) that we can supply to builders of OS/2 systems. Please send your suggestions to me at donnaw@ibm.net. If my mailbox gets too full, I may ask for help; but right now, keep those electronic cards and letters comin' in! We've had a couple of contributions to this effort. Please help us by providing yours today!
