October 6, 1996 AGENDA FOR OS/2 SIG MEETINGS 6:00 p.m. Novices' pre-meeting (question and answer (Q&A), installation assistance, etc.) 7:00 p.m. General SIG business, including: General Q&A Announcements Product news/rumors SIG news 8:00 p.m. Feature presentation, Felix Cruz (SofTouch Systems), "What's New with FileStar/2, UniMaint, and GammaTech Utilities" About the program: ----------------- Our speaker will demonstrate essential features of FileStar/2, UniMaint, and the GammaTech Utilities. About the speaker: ----------------- Felix Cruz joined IBM in 1981, the day IBM announced doubling the System/34's (AS/400 predecessor) main memory capacity from 64K to 128K. (IBM announced the IBM Personal Computer later that year.) Since 1993, when SofTouch Systems made the GammaTech Utilities available in the OS/2 marketplace, Felix has been with SofTouch Systems' Workstation division. He is the chief customer advocate for SofTouch, with an explicit goal of making SofTouch products easier to use. Meeting Specials!!! ------------------- SofTouch products will be available (for a limited time) at special user group prices. Complimentary copies of UniMaint and FileStar/2 will be raffled off at the meeting. Advanced Computer Creations (Laurel, MD) has also donated raffle prizes for this month's meetings: 8 Megabytes of 60 nanosecond EDO memory to add to your existing system. This is particularly intended to help those who would like to move to Merlin but have less than the recommended 24 Megabytes. If the winners' systems' (one each in MD and VA) cannot use EDO memory, an appropriate substitute will be provided. If you'd like to see other OS/2 offers from Advanced Computer Creations (ACC), visit their Web site at http://www.acctoday.com (OS/2 preloaded systems are listed in the "Business Systems" category). FUTURE SIG FEATURES Our parent organization, CPCUG, has changed the format of its General Meeting slightly, better to meet the needs of those who attend. General meetings now begin with a 30-minute presentation by one of the SIGs. These SIG presentations precede the feature presentation. Both the September and October "pre-meeting" presentations were sponsored by the OS/2 SIG. For the General Meeting on 14 October, Lem Geathers will demonstrate the voice capabilities included in Merlin.
